I have 250 workers here in this facility. 5 managers, 16 supervisors, and 220 shop floor workers made up of welders, platers, engineers and plumbers. I have been in the industry since 1972, so as you can imagine there has been significant advancement within the shipbuilding industry. One of the main changes happened when we went from the old-fashioned, traditional shipbuilding method of laying the keel and then building the ship plate by plate. This is now changed completely to what we call a modular or unit-build whereby individual units are put together to form a block, and the blocks are then put together on the berth to form the superstructure of the ship.
If I'm looking for a new member of the team, I want someone who shows enthusiasm, with a positive, can-do attitude - somebody who would show initiative, be a part of changing things for the better and for the shipbuilding industry's future.
