Building modern ships requires a wide range of skills. Some are unique to the industry and others are applicable to many other business sectors. All these skills need to come together to successfully launch a ship. Some of the work is office-based and in other jobs you will need great manual skills. Every day you will find yourself constantly challenged to do your work well and come up with new ideas about how to do it better.
Everybody has to start somewhere if they are considering a career in engineering. We interviewed some trainees in Scottish shipyards to find out what they do, how they got into the job - and what makes the job worth doing. Select one of the trainees and they'll put you in the picture. For all video testimonials go to our resource library section.
