These will be the names of the two aircraft carriers we're helping to build in Scotland. They'll each be made up of four lower hull blocks (built in Scotland, the North of England, Southwest England and Portsmouth). Currently the Scottish yards will be responsible for the massive stern sections and numerous other parts of these massive ships, and are also likely be involved in building and fitting out many other parts of the carriers as contracts continue to be let. All the blocks and sections will be transferred to Rosyth for 'integration', the complicated process of welding the blocks together to make a powerful fighting ship. Teams are currently busy on the complex planning exercise required to ensure that all this happens safely and efficiently in time to meet the challenging dates for getting these ships into service in 2015 and 2018.
Job opportunities in the shipyards will boom. And wider communities around the shipyards and the whole of Scotland should benefit as a result. £3.9 billion has been earmarked for the construction of these massive ships - and some of that money will find its way into your salary if you become a member of the team.
